Girl Scout Gold Award Requirements

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that may be earned by 9th-12th graders.  It is a Take Action project that must include five elements. The project must (1) address a root cause of an issue that a Girl Scout feels passionate about that has a (2) national and/or global link. Through the Girl Scout’s actions, they must demonstrate (3) leadership while also creating (4) sustainable and (5) measurable impact.

The Gold Award is individually earned by a given Girl Scout.  Although every Girl Scout must recruit a volunteer team to support them, there may be only one leader and award recipient per project.  Additionally, the Gold Award must take at least 80 hours of a Girl Scout’s own work to complete.

More information can be found on our Gold Award main page.  This includes an informational Gold Award packetand required GSNorCal Gold Award training (alternatively, you can register for a live webinar to complete the training requirement).

Although this may sound daunting, we have resources and volunteers that are dedicated to supporting every Girl Scout’s success.  The Gold Award is a challenge, but it may be earned by any Girl Scout who wants to pursue it.  This includes Girl Scouts with disabilities.  If your Girl Scout has a unique situation or specific supports that are necessary to ensure their success, please reach out to our awards team and we will work with you!
