Girl Scouts of Northern California serves incredibly diverse communities from all over the Northern California area. With so many rich cultural celebrations and heritage acknowledgments that happen throughout the year, we wanted to offer you a quick reference guide so that you and your troop can keep track and include them in your activities for the year!

💚 = Special Girl Scout Days

January:

  • January 1st – New Year’s Day
  • 3rd Monday in January – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Late January-Early February – Lunar New Year

February:

  • The entire month of February is Black History Month
  • Late January-Early February – Lunar New Year
  • Late January/early February-February/March(dates vary each year) – Ramadan
  • February 22nd: World Thinking Day 💚

March:

  • The entire month of March is Women’s History Month
  • March (Date Varies): Holi (Festival of Colors)
  • March 8th: International Women’s Day
  • March 10th: Harriet Tubman’s Birthday
  • March 12th: Girl Scouts’ Birthday 💚
  • Girl Scout Week: Celebrated in March. starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath on a Saturday, and it always includes Girl Scouts’ birthday, March 12. 💚
  • March 17th: St. Patrick’s Day

April:

  • The entire month of April is Celebrate Diversity Month & Volunteer Appreciation Month
  • April 2nd: World Autism Day
  • April 22nd: Earth Day
  • April 22nd: Girl Scout Leader’s Day 💚

May:

  • The entire month of May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Month
  • The entire month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month

June:

  • The entire month of June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month
  • June 19th: Juneteenth

July:

  • July 4th: Independence Day
  • July 26th: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Anniversary

August:

  • August 9th: International Day of the World’s Indigenous People

September:

  • September 15th-October 15th: National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month
  • September 22nd: Autumnal Equinox

October:

  • The entire month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
  • The entire month of October is Global Diversity Awareness Month
  • October 10th: World Mental Health Day
  • October 31st: Girl Scout Founder’s Day – Juliette Gordon Low’s Birthday 💚

November:

  • The entire month of November is Native American Heritage Month
  • November 1st: Dia de los Muertos
  • November 20th: Transgender Day of Remembrance

December:

  • Winter holiday celebrations including: Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice
