Fingerprinting is required for all adult volunteers with direct contact or supervision of children, for more than 16 hours per month or 32+ hours per year, in compliance with state law AB506.
Every adult volunteer should take steps to complete fingerprinting. This service is currently free to members and once the screening is approved there is no need to reprint for GS NorCal*!
Here are the steps you need to follow to comply with the fingerprinting requirements:
- Visit the website and register for a fingerprinting appointment. [Begin Live Scan Fingerprint Process]
- Attend your scheduled fingerprinting appointment at a designated location. If you need to reschedule your appointment, please use the link above and click “Reschedule Appointment” at the top of the page.
Thank you for understanding the importance of maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone involved. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to info@gsnorcal.org and we will be happy to support you!
*Current fingerprint screenings valid for up to 75 years, exceptions may apply if there is a significant lapse in membership or a volunteer becomes ineligible.
Volunteers received free screening for the past three years through a state grant. Starting June 15, 2026, future volunteers will be responsible for background check costs, consistent with other California Girl Scout councils. State law requires fingerprinting (Live Scan) for volunteers with direct contact or supervision of children for more than 16 hours per month, or 32+ hours per year. Volunteers who do not meet that threshold may qualify for an online name-based electronic background check, which must be renewed every three years. Need Help? info@gsnorcal.org
