Are you able to represent Girl Scouts at your child’s school? Girl Scout School Reps are needed throughout GSNorCal to serve as a liaison between their school and their local Service Unit and GSNorCal staff. Our goal is to have a Girl Scout presence at every school and school event in our council.
What is a Girl Scout School Rep?
A School Rep is a service unit volunteer who can help spread the word about Girl Scouts at a local school.
Who is a good fit for this role?
A parent in a troop or troop leader who has a child attending the school is an ideal candidate, but PTA members or teachers also make great reps. School Reps need to be registered for the current membership year, have an approved background check on file, and be at least 18 years of age.
What is the time commitment?
We know you’re busy, so we’re asking for about five hours of your time per school year. Most of this time will be during back to school and fall. The term is one membership year and is renewable.
Is training provided?
Yes, we’ll provide you with everything you’ll need including training, a checklist, a business card template to personalize, flyers or postcards, pens, and sign in sheets.
What will I be doing as a Girl Scout School Rep?
You’ll help us spread the word about Girl Scouts at your school by:
- Attending already planned school events such as back-to-school days/nights, book fairs, curriculum nights and more to pass out Girl Scout materials (you can enlist helpers).
- Make your presence known to the school principal, office staff, room parents and PTA/PTO volunteers.
- Assist us with a parent information meeting by reserving a room, spreading the word and attending the meeting—the girls in your troop can help too!
- You’ll direct potential new leaders to our staff or potential new members to the “Join” link at gsnorcal.org.
If you think that you can help or would like more information, please contact a GSNorCal staff member, a local service unit team member, or email info@gsnorcal.org.
