How to Create an Effective Girl Scout Event Flyer
A well-designed flyer can spark excitement and boost attendance for your next Girl Scout event. Whether you’re planning a badge workshop, camp experience, or fun meeting, use this as a guide to ensure your flyer is clear, informative, and fun!
Step 1: Gather All the Essential Event Details
Before you begin designing, collect the full scope of event information. Refer to our Answer the following:
Who: is sponsoring the event? (be sure to secure logos)
Event Name: Clear and catchy!
What: Briefly describe the activity and its purpose. If it’s a money-earning event, mention how proceeds will be used.
Who: Who can attend? (Registered Girl Scouts, specific grade levels, parents, siblings, friends, etc.)
When: Include the exact date and day of the week. Double-check that they are correct!
Where: List the event hosting facility name, full address (including city and zip), and directions if needed.
Why: Connect the event to Girl Scout outcomes like leadership, collaboration, or confidence-building.
Cost: Include pricing for members and non-members, what’s included (shirt, food, patch), cancellation policies, and any financial aid options.
How to Register: Note if pre-registration is required, deadlines, late fees, and how participants will receive confirmation.
What to Bring: If no confirmation messaging is sent to registered attendees, let attendees know what to wear or bring on the flyer.
Contact Info: Always include a name, phone number, and/or email for questions.
Step 2: Design with Purpose and Style
Now that you have the details, it’s time to design a flyer that gets attention!
Make It Appealing
- Use visuals that represent the event (show fun, friendship, or adventure).
- Your flyer should be inviting and informative.
Keep It Neat and Simple
- Use bullet points or short phrases.
- Avoid clutter, more words = less engagement.
- Focus on one strong visual, not lots of small ones.
Emphasize What Matters
- Highlight the most important information on your flyer (event name, date/time, location, audience, and cost) with:
- Larger font
- Bold text
- Strategic placement (top half of the flyer is prime real estate!)
Be Smart with Fonts
- Choose fonts that are easy to read (be sure size is legible and font).
- Use no more than 2–3 fonts.
- Fancy fonts are great for headings, but not for body text.
- Avoid serif fonts in large blocks of text.
Use Artwork & Graphics Wisely
- Eye-catching graphics can enhance your flyer.
- Be sure you’re using images and logos correctly. Refer to our help center article about photography, branding and logo usage. https://helpcenter.gsnorcal.org/resources/logo-usage-guidelines-for-troops-and-service-units/
Proofread Thoroughly
- Misspelled words and incorrect info can confuse your audience.
- Ask at least one other person to review your flyer before printing or posting.
Get Approval
- Every service unit is different, confirm who needs to approve your flyer before sharing it.
