Service Unit Facebook Groups: Tips & Tricks

Purpose: Service Unit (SU) Facebook groups serve as a central hub for communication within the unit, allowing for easy sharing of information, questions, and support among members.

Sharing Resources: SU Groups can be used to share valuable resources like upcoming events, troop meeting ideas, badge information, volunteer opportunities, and links to relevant Girl Scout materials.

Community Building: Facebook groups facilitate a sense of community among Girl Scout leaders, volunteers, and parents, fostering a supportive network.

Running a Facebook Page is a core part of many social media jobs, especially for nonprofits, small businesses, or local programs. Here’s how to handle it like a pro:

Posting

  • Use Facebook’s built-in scheduling tool (within the group) to stay consistent.
  • Share the latest council news from our council facebook page!
  • Browse the council events page to find events in your service unit to share.
  • When sharing events, make sure you always include a Call to Action (CTA). This gives readers a way to take action on after reading your post. Get creative with it!  Examples:
    • “Register Here! <insert link here>”
    • “Learn More! <insert link here>”

Encourage Engagement

  • Post polls, questions, or conversation starters to spark discussion.
  • Shout out active members or ask for input on decisions.
  • Comment on member posts!

Use Insights

  • Use “Group Insights” to see when your members are most active and what posts perform best.
  • Adjust your posting schedule and topics based on what you noticed gets the most views and engagement

Link to Other Tools

  • Add relevant documents, resources, or links in the “Files” or “Featured” section. Keep this up to date with the most recent happenings!
  • Some good council resources to keep linked are:
    • gsnorcal.org
    • events.gsnorcal.org
    • facebook.com/gsnorcal
  • Pin posts so important info stays at the top. This is perfect for posts about upcoming events, camp registration, cookie season, and more! It’s very important to keep this up to date, as it will be a go-to spot for your members to access important information!
    • If you’d like some examples, you can check out our council facebook page and see what we have pinned!
